Disney’s Contemporary Resort

I’ve always loved this resort. The image of this massive, concrete A-frame building with a monorail going through the middle of it was the epitome of modern when I was a kid. This 15 story 1,041 room monstrosity is in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area and is bordered by Bay Lake. Its rooms have fantastic views of the Magic Kingdom and nightly fireworks from Cinderella’s Castle.

Standard rooms at the Contemporary offer guests two queen sized or one king sized bed and a daybed, table and chairs, ceiling fan, data-port, in room safe and voicemail. Many of the rooms here have a private balcony and garden views.

Some of the most interesting suites at Walt Disney World are located at this resort.

One bedroom suites have two queen sized beds and one queen sized sofa bed.

Two bedroom suites have four queen sized beds and one sofa bed.

Concierge service is offered to guests in suites on the concierge level. These suites offer a refrigerator, turndown service, a coffeemaker, free continental breakfast, personalized front desk/guest services, free midday snacks and free evening wine, cheese, cordials and dessert.
Resort amenities offered to all guests include free valet parking, 24-hour room service, daily newspaper delivery, a white sand beach with volleyball and shuffleboard, two swimming pools and a kiddie pool, six tennis courts, a jogging path, a marina complete with boat Rentals, water-skiing, parasailing and fishing, laundry service, a hair salon, a health club, an arcade, two lounges and supervised child-care. Gift shops, clothing and jewelry stores are also available on site.

Dining options on site at the Contemporary resort include Chef Mickey’s, the California Grill, the Concourse Steakhouse, the Food & Fun Center Snack Bar and the Sand Bar.

The real bonus to staying at the Contemporary resort is the transportation. It offers direct monorail service to the Magic Kingdom, the Polynesian resort, the Grand Floridian resort and Ticket & Transportation Center. You may also catch a connecting monorail for travel to Epcot. Boats depart from the Contemporary resort for Fort Wilderness and bus service will take you to the Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach and Disney’s MGM Studios. At the Ticket and Transportation Center you can take connecting buses to all other attractions and Disney resorts. The Contemporary resort is also within walking distance of the Magic Kingdom.
