Divorces for Usher and Barry Bonds

Just four short months after wife Tameka suffered cardiac arrest in Brazil reportedly during plastic surgery, Usher has filed for divorce. He filed the petition in Superior Court in Atlanta on Friday.

The couple married in August 2007 after cancelling their July wedding. That November, the couple’s first son Usher Raymond V, was born. Tameka gave birth to their second son, Naviyd, last December. Many speculated that the cardiac arrest was due to having plastic surgery too soon after the birth of a child.

A source told PEOPLE magazine that the couple had been leading separate lives for months. That seemed apparent when we learned Usher didn’t know Tameka was having surgery in February.

If either of the two is upset by the split, it doesn’t show. She was seen smiling at the screening of Eddie Murphy’s latest film Imagine That the night before Usher filed for divorce. That night, Usher was spotted at MyHouse, a Los Angeles club chatting and drinking with friends.

Another couple calling it quits is slugger Barry Bonds and his wife of 11 years, Liz. She filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on June 5th. The couple, who has one daughter, Aisha, was married in 1998. Liz listed the reason for the divorce as irreconcilable differences and is seeking spousal support as well as joint legal and physical custody of Aisha.

Bonds was married to Susann Margreth Branco previously, but that marriage ended in divorce in 1994. Bonds had Branco sign a prenup the night before their wedding and after they separated, it took six long years for the courts to rule that the prenup was valid.

Meanwhile, Bonds has more legal woes on his hands. He is awaiting trial for allegedly lying under oath when he denied that he took steroids before a federal grand jury in December 2003. He has pleaded not guilty, but the trial has been delayed due to argument over admissible evidence.
