Do You Blog About Your Homeschool?

Do you have a blog? And if so, do you blog about your homeschool?

computerWhen you go online and type “homeschool blogs” into a web search, you have a wealth of information at your fingertips. Just a quick search in Google yielded me 4,110,000 results – wow. Think of all the resources those four million blogs could hold for me. Think of all the inspiration, the lesson ideas, the motivation I could get by tapping into that completely free resource.

With all those blogs already in existence, is it still important for you to add the topic to your blog as well? If you’d like to, I think it could be very beneficial to you.

First, every person who adds their voice to the homeschool movement makes it that much stronger. What if we weren’t just four million strong, but five million, or more? We have things to say, experiences to share, and we’re not going away any time soon. There’s strength in numbers, as they say.

Second, it gives your friends and families a chance to understand a little more about what you do and why you’ve made the decisions you have. Sometimes it’s so much easier to explain things when you have quiet moments to think and to carefully formulate the words you want to say.

Third, your blog can act as your journal. As you talk about the milestones your children make, you can look back and see how far you’ve come. It can really be motivating on days when you don’t feel all that motivated.

Fourth, you have a great deal to share. Your experiences and your activity ideas may be just what someone else is looking for. Your inspired solution to a problem may be the answer to another person who is struggling. Never discount your own contribution to the world.

I do encourage you not to use your children’s real names as you post, and to avoid direct pictures of their faces – the Internet can be a danger to children, so using a certain bit of anonymity will be beneficial to you.

Of course you can homeschool without blogging about it, but if it’s something that interests you, go for it. You never know when your post will inspire someone else to do great things.
