Do You Photoshop?

I’ve been lusting after Adobe Photoshop software since it debuted in 1988. Yet, like my long-lost love, the Dyson, we have yet to join forces.

Of course, even if I had the money in 1988 to purchase the popular photo-editing software, I would have had to upgrade by now. Since its debut, Photoshop has been revised more than 10 times. In October 2008, the 11th major release of Adobe Photoshop took place and along with the upgrades came a name change, from Adobe Photoshop 8 to Adobe Photoshop CS.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the software, it’s like having your own digital darkroom. The editing possibilities are practically limitless with the advanced program. What’s more, Photoshop can be used by amateur and professional photographers alike. In fact, Adobe Photoshop CS is now an industry standard among pros, as seen in the litany of magazine photo spreads that are produced on a daily basis.

Some of Photoshop’s most notable features include fixing red-eye, eliminating pet-eye, adding or reducing light, adding texture, editing blurry shots, adding or removing portions of shots, changing color photos into black and white, restoring old or damaged photos, converting existing photos to sketches or paintings, combining multiple photos to create group shots, along with dozens of other high-tech tricks.

Unfortunately, all these bells and whistles come with a pretty hefty price tag. To put it mildly, Photoshop is not cheap. However, it is a worthwhile investment if you learn how to use all of its features. That is the key to getting a decent return on your purchase. Fortunately, there are a number of Photoshop assistance programs online, such as Pegaweb.com and AllGraphicDesign.com, which show you how to work with tools in Photoshop CS2, employ Photoshop scripts, understand layering, edit and create sets of keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop CS and CS2, and make coloring books from your favorite photos.
