Down by the Sea

left

Don’t let a summer trip to the beach go to waste. While your family is having fun in the sun, be sure to snap photos of their adventures in the sand and surf. Pictures of your kids chasing seagulls, collecting seashells, swimming, surfing, sunbathing, flying a kite or reading under a colorful beach umbrella are the heart and soul of a beach vacation-themed scrapbook.

In addition to snapping images of your trip, consider jotting down some of the funniest or most poignant memories to feature in journaling blocks. If you don’t have the time or energy to write down anecdotes or notes while you are at the beach, but you still want to spice up your scrapbook layouts when you get home, consider surfing the Internet for appropriate quotes. For example, sites such as Scrapbook.com features a slew of famous phrases that can be used to add a special touch to a beach vacation memory album.

Some popular quotes include:

“Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone.”

“To find a seashell is to discover a world of imagination.”

“I have always loved the beach. The smell of the salty water, the wind in my face, and the gentle roar of the waves all combine to create a sense of peace and calm.”

“If you want to know how much I love you, count the waves.”

“Don’t grow up too quickly, lest you forget how much you love the beach.”

“In every grain of sand there is a story of the earth.”

Don’t forget to collect a few mementos of the beach while you are on vacation. You can use items, such as sand, shells and seaweed to embellish your layouts. My neighbor recently created a stunning sandcastle layout featuring items she collected during a family trip to the lake. She selected a large piece of tan colored cardstock and cut it in shape of a sandcastle. Next, she used a craft knife to slice out windows in the castle. Then, she sprayed the cardstock with a photo-safe adhesive, and sprinkled it with a bunch of sand. When the adhesive dried she placed photos of her kids in the windows of the sand castle and added it to the layout. Finally, she added very small shells and tiny pieces of beach glass around the sandcastle cut-out.
