Want to save some money on your car insurance? Try taking a driver safety course. Some of these courses can be taken online, which means that you won’t have to take a physical driving test. Many states are offering these programs to older drivers.
There are lots of things that a person can do in order to save a little money on their car insurance. You can shop around, in order to find out what several different insurance companies will charge you for your premium, and then select the company that offers the best price. You can remove your teenager from your auto insurance policy.
Younger guys can add their live-in girlfriend to their policy, in order to get an automatic discount. Or, you could let an insurer install a device in your car that tells the insurer how well, (or how poorly), you drive, in the hopes of getting a discount.
Some insurance companies are offering a discount on car insurance premiums to customers who take a driver safety course. Many of these courses are entirely done online. Basically, this means that you would be taking the “written” part of a driving test, but will not be required to actually get behind the wheel and show off your safe driving skills. Can’t do a perfect three point turn? No worries!
AARP has an online driver safety course that is being offered to seniors. It takes between four and eight hours for a person to do this online course. More than 60,000 people, from all across the United States, took this course in 2010. In the time between the end of 2010, and July of 2011, 40,000 more people have taken the class.
The number of people who are interested in taking an online driving course, (in order to get a discount on their car insurance), has been increasing by 20% over the past three years. People are taking these types of driver safety classes specifically because they hope it will result in a lower premium for them. This interest is not a sudden uptick in a desire to be a better, or safer, driver.
AAA also has an online driver training safety program. They feel that the online courses are helpful because they allow older drivers to become familiar with some of the new technology that can now be found in cars. It also allows older drivers to learn about any changes that have been made in traffic laws since they first got their drivers license.
