After several weekends of scanning old photos of my husband’s extended family I finally finished the DVD photo slide show today. The slide show includes over four hundred photos of my husband side of the family dating back over 100 years.
Last night my husband gave me the final music for the DVD slide show and he knew I was finishing it today. Usually he doesn’t take much of an interest in my projects. I was stunned when he asked if it was finished and if he could watch it. For my husband it was quite a walk down memory lane. I have made a couple extra copies of the DVD slide show. One copy is going to my husband’s Aunt in Florida and another one is going to my in laws.
The whole process of sorting, scanning, editing and putting together the DVD photo slide show has been a real connecting experience for me. My husband’s Granddad passed away a few years before we met and were married. I never had the pleasure of meeting Granddad but have heard stories about him for many years. Granddad had an awesome green thumb; he spent his later years in life doing landscaping and yard work. Seeing all of the photos of Granddad and his prize winning flowers helped me realize exactly what my husband has been talking about all of these years.
My father in law looks a lot like Granddad. It was fun for me to see my father in law grow up through photos. I always knew my father in law was a talented athlete. Seeing the photos of him playing baseball, football, golf and bowling just confirmed how dedicated he was to sports. My husband looks a lot like his Dad but doesn’t share his passion for sports.
The point of all of this is the photos you take today will be viewed and enjoyed by generations for years to come. Documenting our lives with photographs will keep our memory alive for the next one hundred plus years.
