Egg and Spoon Race – Game Review

The Egg and Spoon Race Game from International Playthings is such fun. The game retails for around seven or eight dollars. It’s recommended for ages three and up. It comes with four different colored plastic spoons and eggs, so four people or relay teams can play at once. The cutest part of the game is the tiny white beanbag with a yellow circle on it. It looks like an egg yolk.

I first saw this game in a dog training class. We had to do the egg and spoon race with the dog’s leash wrapped around our wrist. They didn’t tell us about the egg yolk bean bags inside the eggs. When the eggs started dropping, everyone at the training class was very surprised! I knew I could use the game for class parties and for an upcoming family reunion.

Kids also love to crack open the eggs and find the yolk inside. I was surprised that my high tech computer boys had such fun with this low tech kind of game. They played with the eggs, pretending to cook them and drop them. And they played spoon race games. They walked around the house, trying not to drop the egg. And they tried running and hopping on one foot. They loved the challenge of balancing the egg on the spoon. As an added bonus, they also got to chase the dog who thought one of the egg halves looked like a great chew toy.

We could of course use real spoons and real eggs. But real eggs are messy. This way kids can try to get across the room or yard as many times as they want. And I wouldn’t want small children around real uncooked oozing eggs anyway. The game is going to be a fun addition to our backyard toys.
