Entertaining in a Heat Wave

left

More power to you if you are willing to host an outdoor summer bash without the aid of a pool. This season’s record hot temperatures have put a damper on some summer shindigs simply because it is unsafe to be outside in certain parts of the nation during the heat of the day.

If you have a swimming pool, then entertaining outside during a heat wave doesn’t seem as extreme. However, if you don’t have access to thousands of gallons of chlorinated water to cool off your party guests, then you need to get creative.

Pull out the Slip-n-Slide for kids; fill up a ton of water balloons and let your guests use each other as targets; or hook up some extra sprinklers for family and friends to run through. Another option is to purchase a bunch of cheap water guns from the Dollar Store and have a squirting competition. Create a bulls-eye on several pieces of cardboard. Line them up, and then have your guests fire away. You could also use other targets such as empty cans, empty two-liter plastic bottles or rubber ducks.

When your guests tire of shooting at stationary targets, give them the chance to fire at each other during a game of Water Gun Freeze Tag. To play this game it is essential that each person is given the same type of gun. It’s not fair for one player to be shooting with a Dollar Store water gun while other players are equipped with elaborate water bazookas. Once the players are split evenly into two teams, they try to tag members on the opposing team. Once a player is tagged (shot by the water gun and hit), he/she has to freeze in that spot. The frozen player can only be unfrozen if he/she is tapped by one of his/her team members. However, players have to accomplish this without being tagged by the competition. The team that has the most unfrozen players at the end of a designated time period is the winner.
