Exercise on Your Own Terms

One of the greatest gifts of the modern age is the television, the Internet and the technology to watch anything, anywhere and anytime. So if you want to exercise, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all you have to do is turn on the television – literally.

We’ve talked about this before, the access we have to fitness DVDs, downloadable programs, iWorkouts on your iPod and iFitness from Nike and much, much more. But the thing is, despite the availability of so many different workout options, it doesn’t seem like there are many people out there who seem to be unaware of it.

Exercising On Your Own Terms

There has been a growing trend over the last few years as more and more, people are looking to exercise on their own terms. It’s not just their own terms, but from their own homes. Fitness can be expensive when you add up membership costs, time spent away from home, travel, gas and even the cost of additional classes. Setting up a home gym can also be expensive, on the other hand, working out at home to a television program that you get anyway because of your subscriber package and performing aerobics or other non-equipment requiring workout costs very little – just some time spent.

The concept of television exercise is hardly new. The on-demand programming expansion, however, is the logical progression and provides a more convenient form of home exercise yet. If finances were your last bastion of defense against working out – then chances are, the only way to opt out of this one is if you don’t have a television or a satellite or cable service.

Channels like ExerciseTV and FitTV offer you a variety of workouts and you are not a hostage to their scheduling because you can use their menu to select what you want and try out different things. Most networks offer a Discovery package and Fit-TV is a part of that package. If you have Time Warner, it’s on channel 123. If you have DirectTV, it’s on channel 368. If you have Time Warner, head over to channel 942 and you can check out ExerciseTV, this is an on demand station and it comes at no additional cost. You make your selections and boom, you have the workout you want to try.

In many ways, ExerciseTV is like the CNN of fitness programming. It’s there and it’s available and whether it’s 1 in the morning or 1 in the afternoon, you can get the workout you want. No more worries about picking up the right DVD or VHS tape. You don’t have to worry about shopping or renting and you don’t have to worry about heading out in foul weather or fair – you can walk into the room that has the television, turn it on and you’re ready to go.

Fair Warning

As great as that sounds, the problem with working out at home without an instructor present is that you may fall into bad form or have trouble maintaining the form correctly. You should also still get clearance from your doctor and make sure that you don’t have any medical or physical limitations against working out.

Have you checked out FitTV or ExerciseTV yet?
