Experimenting with New Embellishments

I am a die hard scrapbook sticker fan. I rarely create a layout without adding at least a few sticky embellishments. However, stickers don’t come cheap. At least not the ones I collect. Elaborate 3-D scrapbook stickers can cost upwards of $8 per pack.

Knowing that I scrapbook on a strict budget, my neighbor has been after me to make the switch to rubber stamps. I’ve been thinking of giving my sticker obsession a break for a bit, but didn’t have a detox plan in place. However, things are about to change. Next month I am planning to attend a rubber stamp convention with my neighbor to learn how to use the affordable embellishments in my layouts in lieu of stickers.

My pal signed us up for a couple of workshops that are designed to help ME hone basic stamping skills and help HER learn new techniques. In addition to the classes, we will participate in a few crops and visit different exhibits and demos to gain inspiration for future layouts. Whereas you could learn the benefits of stamping by visiting a traditional scrapbook convention, if you are interested in experimenting exclusively with stamping it’s worth your while to attend shows run by Rubber Stamp Madness, Stamping to See You and Adventures in Stamping.

At conventions run by the aforementioned companies you can learn a variety of unique stamping skills such as the crinkle technique, distressing, rolling, chalked backgrounds, and even find out how to stamp candles. What’s more, you will have access to a litany of different stamps and other stamping tools that may not be available at your local scrapbook supply store. Though, I’ve been told that some vendors who set up shop at stamping conventions do not accept credit cards, so be sure to bring along enough cash in order to purchase any new items you don’t think you can live without.

Have you ever attended a stamp convention?
