Expressions of Love

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced it’s the little things in life and in marriage that make all the difference. What sort of things? Here are a few examples from our week.

Enjoying an Experience Together

The other day Mick and I rose early, got in the car and drove to the nearby beach. There we watched the sun come up and walked along the beach. What a beautiful start to the morning. Of course we snapped photos too to help imprint the time even further in our memory banks.

Encouragement and Support
On Monday night I was speaking at a ladies’ Christmas gift evening. Early yes, but halls available for such events are in scarce supply any closer to Christmas. Mick had been supportive of me in writing the talk, reading it over and finding any mistakes I needed to correct.

It also meant we had to have a really early dinner beforehand for me to get to the event, as two of us from our church music team needed time to check the sound and practice our musical item which came at the end of my talk. I also knew Mick’d be praying for me while I spoke. His first question when I came home was ‘How did it go?’

Practical Help

After a longer than usual walk one morning, I ended up with huge blisters on my heels and the soles of my feet were so red and painful I could barely stand. Mick hung the washing out on the line and brought in again and cooked dinner so I could stay off my feet as much as possible.

A Small Gift

I know in the quiz the other day gifts weren’t that important, but this was cute. Mick’s not big on flowers and that’s okay. He is more likely to buy some other small gift like an owl, since I collect owls. Knowing I was feeling miserable with my sore feet, Mick brought me in a vase containing one pink snapdragon that he’d taken from the garden. It was very sweet and is sitting right near my books and computer on my desk -a little reminder of love.

Little things, but each one is a memory and an expression of love. What can you do to show love to your spouse this week? And I’d love to hear from you about expressions of love that have meant something to you.
