Family Tree University Has New Online Genealogy Courses

keyboard Family Tree University, or FTU, periodically offers online courses for genealogists. They last for four weeks and are instructor-guided. FTU is the online education program from the publishers from Family Tree Magazine. I don’t think that it is an accredited university, but, it is a good way for a genealogist to learn more about genealogy.

There are several Family Tree University courses that will begin very soon. If you are interested in taking one of these courses there are a few things that you should know. They are virtual classes, and you can log into them whenever it is convenient for you, day or night. You log into the website to post questions or comments, to read the lesson material, and to complete exercises or quizzes. The courses are not free, which is something to keep in mind.

Here are a few upcoming online courses from Family Tree University:

Build A Family Website: Make A Site For Your Family in Four Weeks will begin on July 9, 2012, and ends August 5, 2012. The tuition costs $99.99. At the time I am writing this blog, there are 10 seats available. The course will teach you how to build a family website. It will be presented by web expert Nancy Hendrickson. You will need a free Blogger or WordPress account in order to participate in this course.

Cemetery Research 101: Dig Up Your Family History will begin on July 9, 2012, and will end on August 5, 2012. The tuition for this class is $99.99. This class will be presented by Midge Frazel. This class will get you excited about exploring the cemeteries that your ancestors are resting in. You will also learn about how to read tombstones, decipher plot maps, and keep your research organized. At the time I am writing this blog, there are 7 seats available.

If you are a total beginner, it is suggested that you take the “Discover Your Family Tree: Genealogy For the Absolute Beginner” class before you enroll in the Cemetery Research 101 class. It will begin on July 9, 2012, and will end on July 22, 2012. The tuition for this class is $19.99. You will learn how to begin your genealogy research, how to record it and organize it, how to fill out a family tree chart, and how to search online for genealogy records and information. At the time I am writing this blog, there are 15 seats available.

Digital Photography Essentials: Techniques to Capture and Preserve Your Family History will begin on July 9, 2012, and will end on August 5, 2012. The tuition for this class is $99.99. You will learn how to master the basics of using digital cameras, photo editing software and scanners in your genealogy work. To take this class you will need to have a digital camera and a form of photo editing software. A scanner is optional. At the time I am writing this blog, there are 7 seats available.
