Farrah’s Cancer Free

Farrah Fawcett, the pinup girl of the 70s, just turned 60. But what better news could she get on her 60th birthday than that she is cancer free? If you remember, Farrah was diagnosed with anal cancer in October 2006. She underwent both chemotherapy and surgery. It is a bit strange in that her former love Ryan O’Neal, with whom she had a 17 year relationship, which produced one son, had just recovered from a bout with leukemia (that is now in remission). He was often a form of support to Farrah during her cancer battle. Also odd is the fact that two of her fellow costars from “Charlie’s Angels” also battled cancer. Kate Jackson has beaten breast cancer twice (in 1987 and 1989) and Jaclyn Smith is also a breast cancer survivor.

Farrah’s doctor, Dr. Gary Gitnick said her prognosis was excellent in a statement he released from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles.

“Charlie’s Angels” ran for five years (1976-1981) and was the story of three women who worked for a private detective office. We never saw Charlie, but there was plenty of footage of Angels. Farrah played Jill Munroe for only one year, but she seems forever linked to the show. She also put out the famous swimsuit poster in 1976 that sold 12 million copies – a figure unheard of at the time. She went on to receive three Emmy Award nominations and much critical acclaim when she played a battered wife in 1984’s made for television movie “The Burning Bed.”

Could Farrah’s recovery mean a reunion for one of the biggest hit television shows of the 70s, “Charlie’s Angels”? Farrah, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith reunited at the 2006 Emmys to pay tribute to “Charlie’s Angels” creator Aaron Spelling. That reunion caused a lot of interest with even the trio seemingly keen on reuniting. Now that all three are healthy, I guess we will see if there will be an Angels reunion.
