It’s that time of the week again… time for another edition of “Fashion Trends—Would You Wear It?” A blog dedicated to the latest trends modeled by Hollywood’s elite. Recently, I have been adding at least one trend that I would actually shell out money for, though as regular readers of this blog know I am a bit conservative, so super short skirts, belly baring shirts and fingerless fishnet gloves never score well with me (though they may with you).
In keeping with tradition here are a few recent fashion trends as made popular by stars and their friends, included is the obligatory conservative trend that even I would add to my closet:
BOW-TOPPED BUBBLE DRESS
Believe it or not I actually considered wearing a bubble dress to my senior prom (back in the late 80’s when they were new to the scene and very hip). Now the bubble dress in making a comeback, only they are strapless with oversized black bows at the bustline, and I wouldn’t even consider letting my daughter wear one. Fashion experts say the dress allows buyers to get two trends in one. Actresses Lindsay Lohan, Emily Procter (“CSI: Miami”) and Sarah Michelle Gellar seem to agree as each has recently been photographed wearing the bow-topped bubble dress to various public appearances.
TRIPLE-TIERED DRESSES
Jessica Alba, Kylie Minogue and Lindsay Lohan have all added these flapper-inspired party frocks to their wardrobes. Unless you really have no qualms about looking like a flapper I would not recommend purchasing one of these dresses. However, if you have been inspired by the ABC hit “Dancing With the Stars” and are looking for a dress that will add flare to your fling then buy, buy, buy.
WHITE-COLLARED BLACK DRESSES
The white collars add a touch of innocence to the classic black dress and are perfect for… 4-year-olds, but that’s just my opinion. Singer Kylie Minogue, and actresses Emmy Rossum and Elisha Cuthbert have all been photographed in various adaptations of the dress, trying to push the trend—for the most part I don’t feel they were successful in doing so.
WIDE-LEG PANTS
This trend screams: “It’s not all about skinny jeans.” HOORAY! Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, and Victoria Beckham have recently been photographed living large in extra-long, extra-wide trousers. Personally, one of my favorite pairs of pants is an extra-long, extra-wide khaki trouser from JCrew. I love them. They are comfortable, easy to run after a toddler in and the extra long hem hides the heels I wear with them so I look a lot taller than I really am.
