With Father’s Day just a week away, it’s time to get those creative juices flowing, especially if you are planning to make Pop a homemade gift. If you have young children, then it shouldn’t take much to get them enthused about making dad a special gift from the heart.
Here are some simple ideas to get you started:
Handprint Art
This project is ideal for families with more than one child; however, it’s still doable if you have a singleton. All you need is a large piece of construction paper and some paint. To start, use brown paint and sketch the trunk of a tree and multiple branches. Then, have the kids add their handprints to the picture. You can have them dip their hands in green paint or a multitude of different colors to make the tree’s “leaves.” Once the handprints dry you can write “Happy Father’s Day 2011” on the top or bottom of the paper. Finally, mat the masterpiece and find an inexpensive frame to place it in.
Love Lists
Have your kids come up with a Top 10 list of things they love the most about their dad. If your child is too young to write up the list, you can help out by typing it up on the computer. Next, add a photo to the list and frame it before presenting it to dad.
Coupon Books
This tried and true gift is always a hit with dads, especially if it is given by an older child who is capable of handling some of Pop’s chores. Have your child draw some coupons or design them on the computer, then staple them together and gift them to dad on Father’s Day. Sample coupons include: taking out the trash, walking the dog, shining dad’s dress shoes, mowing the grass, doing the dishes, cleaning out the car, doing the laundry or… no sibling fighting for an entire day.
