Father’s Day Paperweights

Do you want to make cool stuff for Dad on his special day? Try these ideas!

Dad Rocks Paperweight

Take your child outside and help him or her find a great looking rock. It should be large enough to use as a paperweight. Clean the rock and let it dry. Paint it Dad’s favorite color or a color that will go well with the décor in his office. Paint the words “Dad, you rock!” in a contrasting color. You can paint the letter directly onto the rock, or you can make a base from cardstock to glue the rock to and paint or print the words on the base.

Golf Paperweights

If Dad likes golf, make a fun golf ball paper weight. Cut out a piece of cardboard in the shape of a kidney bean (a simple circle will work too). Cut several layers of green felt in the same shape. Glue them together and then glue to the cardboard. Glue a golf ball to the felt (a decent dollop of hot glue is probably the best choice, so adult supervision is required). Next, glue a golf tee to the other side.

Another cool golf paperweight can be made with a little more adult help. Select a small piece of craft wood about ½” thick. If you can only find thin pieces, glue one on top of the other with some wood glue. Next, glue green felt or faux grass to the top of the wood, and glue some felt to the bottom so it won’t scratch Dad’s desk. Have a grown up drill a hole in the center of the wood. Put a couple of drops of wood glue into the hole and then insert a golf tee. When it is dry and secure, hot glue a golf ball to the top of the tee.
