Filing Taxes

February is half over. Did you have a pleasant Valentine’s Day? It was very nice in our house. My husband gave me flowers and sweet cards from himself and the girls. Daddy gave chocolates to our toddler and a card to each girl. I’ll do better next year.

The passing of Valentine’s Day means that there’s a month and a half left to file our taxes. Have you started working on yours? Have you already filed and gotten a refund? I wanted to get an early start on our return this year, but we haven’t even bought TurboTax yet. Last year I was a featured segment on the local CBS affiliate about missed deductions. I did the segment hoping I’d learn what those deductions were in case I’d missed them myself. Alas, I’d already gotten all the deductions the reporter wanted to discuss.

I am a procrastinator. I’m a procrastinator in many areas. I’d love for someone to come in and organize my life so I could stay on top of things, but I keep putting off finding someone to do that. I think I need a wife too. Our taxes tend to be long, involved, and complicated, so procrastinating is natural for me. I know we have to file our taxes, but it’s easy to let them go to the last minute. A couple years ago we were racing to the closest Post Office that was open until midnight so that we’d have the postmark.

I don’t want to procrastinate that much this year. I’d really like to get our taxes filed and out of the way. I hope to get a refund and add it to last year’s to get a new couch or TV. If we end up waiting, we have until April 18, to file this year.
