I admit it. I’m not a football fan. I’ve never been a football fan. I can’t see that changing. I will watch the Super Bowl with family and friends because it’s an event. For me, it’s not about the game; it’s about being with those family and friends. The commercials are usually pretty good too. When we still lived in California, I’d go to my sister’s house to watch the Rose Bowl game for the same reason. The closest I get to watching football now is every October when the reality show Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team comes on.
It’s not just football; it’s all sports. It’s not my thing. I was never good at sports in school. Still, I loved playing capture the flag, and couldn’t wait for softball each spring. I don’t know why I enjoyed softball since I couldn’t run or field.
I think I could get into sports as a way to learn more about finance, though. Financial Football does just that. It’s not typical football. The gamer isn’t just running the ball down the field toward the goalposts. He has to use his head and answer financial questions correctly to gain yards and earn points.
There are three ways to play: Rookie, ages 11-14; Pro, ages 14-18; Hall of Fame, ages 18+. You can play a quarter – five minutes, half – ten minutes, or full – twenty minutes game. I played the Texas version with the Cowboys as my home team. I tossed the coin and then had to choose to either kickoff or receive. I have no idea what either of those things is.
This game is so much fun. I love it. I don’t understand the football aspect of it at all, but I love the finance questions and did really well. I’m telling my nephews about this free game.
