Finding the Right Supplies

Depending on the theme of your scrapbook layout, finding the right supplies can be a breeze or it can be downright frustrating. Obviously, if you are crafting a traditional birthday, wedding or Christmas, Easter or Halloween-themed design, getting your hands on appropriate scrapbooking materials is fairly simple. However, if you are trying to craft a layout to commemorate your cousin’s new job as the director of the city’s Planning Department, you might be forced to exercise a bit more creativity.

In a previous post, I shared a little about my neighbor’s recent adventure to see Disney on Ice: Treasure Trove. Within 48 hours of attending the live ice-skating performance she created an entire memory album filled with photos of the event and hundreds of Disney-themed embellishments she found on the Internet.

Personally, I was shocked by her success. I realize that Disney is a popular scrapbook theme, but I didn’t think she would be able to find as much as she did in such a short amount of time. According to my neighbor, there are dozens of sites dedicated to Disney-themed scrapbooking materials. Among her favorite finds were the many sites that allowed her to download Disney fonts for free. IloveDisney.com, FreeFonts.com, and MickeyAvenue.com have hundreds of fonts that you can use without having to shell out a dime. The fonts are great to use on page titles or journaling blocks to help enhance your theme.

Another way my neighbor used the free fonts was to create a ransom note look in one of her journaling blocks. After she printed out an entire entry using the free fonts, she went back and replaced select letters with chipboard, stickers, rub-ons, and acrylic word embellishments. The end result was a whimsical journaling block that fit perfectly with her fun and kid-friendly Disney theme.
