Finding Time for Craft Projects

Whether you are single or married, a career woman or a soccer mom (or dad), or any position between or beyond, you are a busy parent. There is a lot to do from work to school, to meals, baths, household chores, paying bills, appointments, and every other demand life throws at you. With so much to do, it can be difficult to squeeze in time to just relax and have fun with our children.

Crafts and other activities provide the perfect outlet. Most don’t require a huge chunk of time, and working on projects together is a great way to bond with our kids. Opt for simple crafts or those you can make using items you already have around the house.

While some parents are able to be more spontaneous and just jump right into a craft project, it isn’t possible for everyone to do so. Some of us may actually have to schedule some time to do crafts with our kids.

I find that Sunday afternoons are a pretty good time. After church, and after everyone has eaten lunch, we’re all pretty relaxed. There isn’t usually anything terribly pressing to worry about, since most errands and things cannot be taken care of on Sunday anyway. While I usually still need to throw in a couple of more loads of laundry, so there are enough clean clothes for the school week and plenty of towels, I find myself putting it off until a little later in the afternoon.

Other parents may prefer Saturday, or the evening, or the middle of the week. Whatever works. Just try to plan a little time to do a few fun craft projects with your kids, even if it’s once a month. You and your kids will enjoy the time. You will be creating new memories, and you will be stimulating your children’s creativity.
