First Digital Camera

Buying your first digital camera can be quite an overwhelming task. It definitely was for me. Deciding between SLR (single-lens reflex) or a point and shoot was (and still is) the hardest choice I had to make. I would love to be a professional photographer some day, but currently, with my two young daughters, I also wanted something that was quick and easy. With an SLR, you can take some amazing photos and really delve deep into your photography. With all the lens options and manual options, you can take the time to develop your own unique style. Time was the drawback for me. I just don’t have much of it. If we go on a hike, I have to be ready to go before the enthusiasm dies. I also didn’t want to be lugging around a heavy bag of camera equipment. I know myself too well; I’d want every sort of lens and accessory out there. I’d go broke before I even got started. In the end, I suppose I made a good decision, although it is hard for me to forget all those cool features and benefits to an SLR!

The camera I ended up going with is the Canon Power Shot S3IS. My camera was delivered a few days ago, but I haven’t had time to play with it yet. My camera has been sitting there on my table begging to be explored. This morning, I decided I’m going to drop everything, dive right in, and share it all with you. This is my very first digital camera, so it will be an interesting adventure!

After tearing the box open, attaching lens cap and neck straps, I’m a tad overwhelmed by all the options! I recognize some of the features this camera has to offer that helped me with my final purchasing decision. I’ll touch on all the features and options later.

The look and feel of the camera takes some getting used to. I suggest, especially if you purchase online, to take a trip to your local camera store and hold the cameras. My hands are on the small side, so the feel of this camera is comfortable. My husband may have a harder time adjusting to it though. You have to be comfortable holding your camera if you want to take good pictures!

Another thing that is important when looking at cameras is to look at consumer reviews. I have found a ton of information on different cameras this way. I feel very confident with my purchase after viewing consumer reviews off many different sites.

Now it’s time for me to open up my user guide and figure all these features out. Stay tuned!
