Fisher Price Musical Learning Chair

The Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Musical Learning Chair is a great way for sitting babies and toddlers to begin learning. The chair has two modes – learning mode and musical fun mode. Each mode has fun songs and ways to teach your child ABCs, colors, counting, and more!

Learning Mode

Learning mode teaches your child the ABCs, colors, the concepts of “on” and “off,” and counting the numbers one through twelve (1-12) on a clock.

When your child sits on the seat, the chair talks or sings. Sometimes the chair may say, “You’re ON the chair,” and when the child gets up will say, “You’re OFF the chair.” Then, the next time your child sits, the chair may sing the ABCs and then giggle.

Your child can learn about sounds that different animals make by playing with the book on the swiveling desk. Puppy, kitty, ducky, and froggy are the animals that are pictured. Each time the child turns the page to a different animal, the chair says, “The [animal] says [actual animal sound].” You get the idea, I’m sure. The best part is that the book is also made of plastic, so you don’t have to worry about the younger ones ripping or attempting to eat the pages.

There is a little lamp that also sits on the desk. When your child pushes down on it or pulls the plastic “chain,” the lampshade will light and the chair will announce the color (e.g., “The green light is on.”) When your child again pushes the lamp down or pulls the chain, the chair announces that the light is off.

When your child spins the hands on the clock, the chair will say, “Tick, tock! Time to count!” Then the next time your child turns the hands, the chair might a song about numbers one through twelve. The only negative I can see about this feature is that you can not move the hands on the clock in order to teach time.

Musical Fun and Games Mode

In the musical fun mode, your child can laugh and sing along with the chair.

Each time your child sits in the chair either a full song or part of a song will play, depending on how long s/he sits. If a song starts, once your child gets up it stops. All s/he has to do to get the next part of the song to play is to sit back down. Not only will your child have fun listening to the music, but it’s great exercise as well!

The book on the little desk plays songs that have to do with the animal on each page. When your child opens to the puppy it plays “BINGO,” and when s/he opens to the froggy it plays “Five Little Speckled Frogs.”

Every time a song plays in musical mode, the lamp lights flash. When your child turns on the lamp, the chair sings a scat.

When your child turns the hands on the clock it tick-tocks. Sometimes it rings like and alarm and then giggles.

Your child will love playing with this Fisher Price Musical Learning Chair. My daughter got one for her first birthday and she plays with it all of the time. Her favorite thing to do is sit in the chair in musical mode so that the chair sings, “When you’re up, you’re up. When you’re down, you’re down. And when you’re only halfway up, you’re neither up nor down! Bee-doo-bee-doo-wah.” In learning mode, she likes to turn the clock so it sings [to the tune of the French song “Alouette”], “Counting in the morning and in the afternoon. Counting when it’s bedtime underneath the moon. I love counting in my chair, I love counting everywhere. 1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8, 9-10. I love counting, counting in my chair.” I know your child will love this chair as much as my daughter loves hers.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO READERS: As of Wednesday, January 18, 2006, this product was recalled by Fisher Price due to injury, one resulting in a large welt. Apparently, a few children got their heads stuck in the space between the desk and chair. Fisher Price is issuing repair kits to consumers who have purchased specific models of this product.
