Fitness Tips: Mental Preparation

When it comes to losing weight or getting fit, you are going to be 100 times more successful when you are mentally psyched for it. There is a method to this madness because mental preparation can put you into the right headspace and help keep you on track for success. The majority of people who quit their fitness or weight loss programs are not doing it because of difficulty with the exercise – but because they are bored or dissatisfied with their program.

There is often a need to find a scapegoat for quitting and some reasons might include:

  • I’m too busy
  • There are not enough hours in the day
  • I can’t afford the gym
  • My (son, daughter, dog, etc) is sick and needed me
  • I got sick and fell out of the habit
  • Other

This is a repetitive process and if you aren’t in the right mental space to achieve your fitness – you will allow these things to sabotage your workout plan. I know from whence I speak, I’ve walked down this road many, many times. I’ve gotten sick and had to take a break and after just one week – getting back into the fitness regimen can seem like an uphill battle – but it doesn’t have to be.

One of the best ways to keep yourself mentally prepared is to acknowledge not only why you want to exercise, but also why you need to. Focus on the benefits to exercising. Focus on how you feel. The first week is always the hardest, by week two – you’re going to be feeling the energy bonus from working out regularly.

We’re going to focus a lot on mental preparation today and the things you can do to get yourself into the right place in your head so you can achieve your fitness goals.

How do you mentally prepare yourself for your workout?
