Five Themes for a Stake Youth Dance

You may be on the planning committee for the next stake youth dance. If so you may be struggling to come up with an idea for your next youth dance. You can help to enliven a dance by having a fun theme picked out for each dance that you plan. Here are five easy ideas.

1) You can have a tropical or Hawaiian theme night. This is easy to decorate for with large flowers, and leis hanging on the walls. You can have the youth come in summer attire or Hawaiian shirts. Of course you need to request knee length shorts only. You can hand out leis at the door and play a bit more reggae music at the dance to give it that summery feel. This theme is fun to do in the winter.

2) One fun theme is to have a formal night. This is a great chance for the youth to show off their modest prom attire. It can also be an opportunity for those who did not attend prom to have fun. You can decorate with elegant decorations. You may want to focus on silver and black with white roses. The requirement is that the youth come in Sunday dress or modest formal wear.

3) Another fun night is to have the youth find and wear t-shirts from previous youth conferences or LDS camps. You can collect extra shirts and hang them on the walls, along with pictures taken at the conferences that match the t-shirts. You can also have a contest for the oldest t-shirt. This can be a lot of fun. You may be surprised at what surfaces.

4) Another easy activity is to plan a seventies or eighties night. You can encourage the youth to come dressed in the attire of the time (modest attire of course). You can also play music from that time period. If you go with a disco theme you may want to have a few people demonstrate their disco skills.

5) You may want to plan a dance around a holiday. This is easy—you can have a Winter Wonderland around Christmas. You can plan a heart themed dance around Valentine’s day or a Stars and Stripes dance around the Fourth of July.
