Just when I thought I’d seen it all in the scrapbook creativity department, I catch sight of a layout featuring tiny photo book booth-style images linked to form a photo frame. Brilliant. What a great way to use up wallet size or smaller prints.
When it comes to making the most of every day items, avid scrappers are a force to be reckoned with. I remember thinking that scrappers were the most amazingly resourceful people on Earth the first time I saw a layout featuring a map as a background. An ordinary paper map doubles as an incredible background for a travel-themed page design. What’s more, you are not limited to using traditional road maps of cities, states or counties. Rather, you can recycle maps of zoos, museums or theme parks to help coincide with your particular trip.
Other items that make unique backgrounds include t-shirts. Yes, regular cotton tees that you may have outgrown or that you have too many of, can be made into eye-popping scrapbook backgrounds. The best t-shirts to use are ones that feature a print, pattern or picture that enhance the theme of the page. Simply cut out the part of the shirt you want to feature as the background and treat it with acid-free spray. Once the spray dries completely, you can affix it to the page and start covering it with photos and memorabilia.
Finally, don’t dump those fuzzy pictures. Whether you are snapping your son’s soccer game, your daughter’s dance recital or your family’s summer trip to the beach or theme park, be sure to keep some of the less the stellar shots. Blurry pictures make the perfect scrapbook page layouts. Simply enlarge part of the blurred image that fits with the theme of the page, and then use in-focus pictures, memorabilia and embellishments to make the page pop.
