For the Beauty of the Earth

I love the hymn, “For The Beauty of the Earth“. It has been one of my favorites for a long time.

Last night, my little family took a drive up one of the canyons close to our house to look at the fall colors. I am constantly awe struck by the beauty of the mountains where I live. Growing up in TX, we don’t have mountains, and it seems like the fall colors are not as vibrant as the aspen trees against the evergreens in the mountains. They amaze me, and I feel like it takes my breath away. As we were out walking around some trails with my kids, the hymn popped into my head. I couldn’t help but, think of the line, “For the beauty of the earth, for the beauty of the skies…” and the second verse, “For the beauty of each hour, of the day and of the night. Hill and vale and tree and flower, Sun and moon and starts of light.”

I truly believe that if you are looking to try and feel closer to your Heavenly Father, then one way to do it is by spending a little time in nature. My kids loved running around and throwing rocks, pointing out beautiful leaves, and breathing in the crisp, cool air. We seemed to all be a little bit more loving and patient. And, my husband indulged me as I took about a million pictures of the beautiful scenery all around me. That made me appreciate his patience for me, too.

We are blessed to live in a beautiful world. And, when you are struck by the beauty of the earth, you cannot help but feel closer to the Father that created this earth for us. He loves us, and wants us to enjoy the beauty all around us. Take some time out of your busy schedule to find a beautiful nature spot close to where you live. Take time to appreciate this beautiful earth we live upon, and you will, for sure, feel closer to a loving Father in heaven, and know that He is watching over you.
