Four Great Food Tips To Save Money

As I know I have mentioned before, saving money in the kitchen is almost a hobby of mine. I absolutely adore cooking and therefor, spend a great amount of time assuring that I am doing it for the least amount possible.

Here are five great tips for food:

Bacon: Do you ever purchase bacon on sale, stock up, pop it in the freezer and then forget about it? Obviously it takes a bit to thaw so if you want bacon for breakfast you’ve got a long wait. When you bring the bacon home, spend a little bit of time cooking it all up (and run it under cold water before dropping it in the pan to make it stay as straight as possible and not shrivel up). Then place a couple in small freezer bags and pop them into the freezer. When you want bacon for breakfast, grab a bag and pop it in the microwave – fresh, hot bacon.

Leftovers: The Queen of Leftovers is my nickname around here, because I have a knack for disguising them to keep everyone eating them. Did you know that you can shred or cut leftover beef, hamburger, chicken, pork and other meats and then add some cheese and noodles to it and you have a whole new meal? It’s a great way to use leftovers and get a whole new meal out of them.

Potatoes: Potatoes are a really frugal food in and of themselves. When you are peeling potatoes for mashed potatoes or something else, save the peelings. You can sprinkle them with some seasonings and Italian salad dressings, bake them at about 425 degrees for about 10-15 minutes and you have a delicious snack and it cost you nothing more than what you already had and would have thrown out.

Meal Kits: I usually make my own meal kits like you see in the stores. But if you do purchase those meal kits, boil some noodles and add them to the meal. You can usually get two meals out of one box if you prepare some extra noodles and use a handful more of the meat asked for.
