Freelance Writing Opportunities

You might not think that money can really be made in writing…but it can. The field of writing is quite expansive with a variety of ways that you can utilize your skills and yes, you can make money doing it.

I always tell those who are interested in a writing career to not go into it with the expectation of being able to quit your day job. Does that mean it can’t happen? I will be the first to tell you that it most certainly can. I went from working as a preschool teacher to now a full-time freelance writer at home and I make much more money than I did previously.

So yes, it is possible but it won’t always happen that way. Still, you don’t want to dismiss the idea of making a lucrative career out of writing.

With writing there are a number of opportunities available. They include blogging, resume writing, ghostwriting, writing web content, copywriting, proofreading, article writing, magazine freelancer, novels, journalism, editing, web copy, technical writing, and grant writing.

There are even more. Sometimes it helps to start off with low-paying jobs that build your resume. You can look into sites such as Suite 101, Examiner, Bright Hub and Hub Pages. While you won’t make much it at least gives you experience and provide some instructional training that will help get your resume off the ground.

Now here are some of my favorite sites where you can find job listings for freelance writing: Freelance Writing Gigs, Morning Coffee Newsletter, Craigslist and Jobs Pro Blogger.

Even if you can’t land a job, don’t let that stop you from writing. There are opportunities that can still help you build some experience. Look for ways to write even if it’s for free, such as creating a newsletter.

My very first experience with writing and sharing with others was putting together a homeschool newsletter many years ago. There was nothing more satisfying than to have others subscribe to it. That turned into writing homeschool curriculum that I bound at a local Xerox copy shop and sold to several homeschoolers.

Today I am an editor/writer, instructional course writer, blogger and web content writer that enjoys a pretty lucrative career. Everything has some kind of beginning…so why don’t you make your beginning today?
