Freezer Cooking: How Do I Store My Meals In The Freezer (2)

frugal living, freezer cooking, OAMCFreezer cooking is one of the easiest ways to save time and money. However, with that comes the challenge of what to freezer your items in. Obviously we have to be careful what we store items in, since heating up certain items, in certain ways would be a challenge if we used the wrong type of storage. There probably is no wrong way to store, and I have tried many things and never had anything not work, I’ve just had some items take longer because of how I’ve stored them.

I’ve already shared with you my plastic storage containers and the fact that these are a terrific method to store, but they do take up a lot of space and they don’t hold as much as I’d like, so I’ve moved on.

Plastic Bags

This is my preferred method, simply because I tend to have freezer bags of various sizes in my house almost all the time. The main concern I think people have about plastic bags, is the cost. By reading the article, Saving Money on Plastic Storage Bags, you can get money saving tips that will help eliminate extra cost and earn you big savings on these easy to use items. In addition using freezer bags makes it easy when you forget to thaw a meal out overnight. They can be popped into the microwave and safely heated up.

Vacuum Sealed Bags

This method can be perfect for many foods and has the terrific benefit of preventing freezer burn because of the airtight seal. The only problem with this method is that purchasing all the supplies can be costly, however after the initial investment the cost drops considerably. Do your research on vacuum sealers and ask around. You might be able to find one that nobody is using anymore and you won’t have to pay a lot for it!

Disposable Foil Containers

They may say disposable but they can be used again and again. In fact, most of mine, when properly cleaned, I can use over a dozen times. I use these mostly for casseroles, since a casserole needs to cook in a longer pan to get heated through. Many casseroles can be heated from a frozen state so this makes more sense that having to thaw it out first and then prepare it.
