Frugal Valentine Gift Ideas

Valentine’s Day is creeping up. Here is how to come up with some great gifts without worrying about having to add an extra line item to next month’s budget. You can have the opportunity to give a great Valentine’s gift or gifts without spending much.

Gift basket under $5

Head over to your nearest dollar or discount store. Chances are that you can put together a great gift basket for less than $5, including the basket. Pick out a few special things that might be available there. If that isn’t enough, supplement the basket with baked goods, homemade crafts, samples and whatever else you can think about putting in it that will be appreciated.

Bake a cake (or pizza, or muffins, or…)

Speaking of baked goods, why not create a special Valentine’s gift with food. Sure you can cook a romantic dinner, but what about having a little something else. Bake a rich chocolate cake, shape a pizza into a heart, make heart pancakes, or whatever other creative idea you have for something special.

Target dollar bin

I picked out one cute Valentine’s gift for each of my children at the dollar bin at Target. They had a good selection of little items that my kids would love. The total cost was $3 (one for each child). I will put these little gifts on their pillows Valentine morning and then supplement with heart shaped cookies. Hey, do you sense a food theme here?

Classic coupons

Finally, there is the classic case of coupons and coupon booklets. There is a good reason why this idea is so classic. It is very cheap (um, free, really) but usually very much appreciated. Hand design or use templates that you find online to create your own coupons or coupon booklets. You can get as simple or as elaborate as you like.
