Frugally Decorate Your Front Door For The Holidays (1)

Decorating for the holidays is something I’ve always loved! It always puts me in the spirit of the season. And when I decorate, I decorate everything I can get my hands on. And it all starts with the front door.

The front door is a very easy place to start, since there aren’t that many different options you can utilize. But there are some ideas you might not have considered.

Keep in mind that your front door is the first thing everyone will see when they enter your home. And usually a front door is visible even from the street, so you will want to keep that in mind when choosing your decorations. The last thing you want is a gaudy decorated door. Try using some of these ideas to add some festivity to the front of your house with out going overboard.

* A swag is always a nice touch, instead of an actual wreath. You can find directions to make several different types of swags by doing a Google search for Christmas Swags.

* I know this isn’t your front door, but place a planter on your front porch. One is fine, but two looks nicer. You can decorate the planter for the season or you can browse your local garden center and find some very decorative but inexpensive planters. Put small evergreens or make a pine cone tree. You can also purchase very fancy wire inserts for growing ivy and other items. Instead of growing the ivy which wouldn’t be too practical at this time of year, string clear lights around the spirals. It looks very classy and sets the stage for what lies behind your front door.

* Do you have extra baskets lying around that you don’t use anymore? You can use one to attach to the door. Just cut the basket in half. Yes, I realize, easier said than done, but you need it to be flat where it attaches to the door. You can use mesh screen to close up the back. Place greenery, evergreen branches, holly or even a few sprigs of berries in the basket and hang it right on the front door. Tie a beautiful seasonal ribbon on the basket handle. You can paint the basket to make it more festive as well.
