I live in a home of builders. My children are always building something or tearing something down. Legos and wooden blocks have nothing on video games in my home. Unless you talk to my 11 year old son and he may disagree. If I had to box up every building toy in my home it would probably build a real home. I find so many applications and uses for building toys but my favorite is creative, imaginative, quiet playtime. I love seeing the intensity on a child’s face while she builds a new city. Blocks break the age barrier as playing with building toys is fun for the whole family. However, it may not always be safe for baby.
Blocks can be dangerous for babies if they have small pieces or rough edges. A baby’s curiosity is fulfilled by building toys since she can learn about stacking, colors, gravity, and fun. Yet, if the blocks are a bunch of different sizes with no shape a baby can recognize or use as a catalyst to something she is familiar with she may get bored. We do not want to steal baby’s imagination yet we need to guide her and gently teach her creativity. For this reason, one of my favorite first birthday gifts is Habaland Play Blocks.
Habaland Play Blocks are for children ages one and up. While there are no small pieces I suggest following the recommended age. A small baby may not enjoy or appreciate setting up little town. The blocks are interesting since they are colorful and have interesting features and shapes like trees, buildings, stairways and more. The set comes with a blocks that fit inside one another with interesting features for a puzzle effect. This feature is very interesting to a one year old. The set also contains a cute little man and car. All together there are 25 pieces. This is a great little set for a curious little one!
