Given that Disney World is a family friendly park there aren’t a lot of places there that are exclusive for adults. Today I’ve decided to focus on somewhere that, although it contains plenty for kids as well, would also make a fun day out for grown-ups. Many of the Epcot attractions I’ll look at might also appeal to some kids, but I tried to choose things that would better hold an adult’s interest.
When I think of Epcot the World Showcase comes first to mind. Epcot is home to pavilions dedicated to 11 different countries from across the globe. Each pavilion contains special attractions and year-round features that impart the culture of the country it represents.
We often don’t give kids enough credit in their desire to learn, but I also know few children that would want to be dragged around 11 different mini-museums to read plaques and look at artwork (even if there is a lot more to each pavilion). Adults on their own at Epcot can explore each pavilion to their leisure.
Another “attraction” that might appeal to kids but also might not, and that also goes hand in hand with the pavilions, is Epcot’s many restaurants. Disney World is studded with eateries, but the ones at Epcot stand out as some of the most diverse. Foodies out to tantalize their taste buds need look no further than Epcot: it offers restaurants featuring rare cuisine such as Norwegian, German, and British, along with more popular fare such as Chinese, Japanese, Mediterranean, Mexican, French, and Italian.
Epcot also has way more to offer than just a miniature tour around the world. It goes under the sea as well. The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion now gives guests the opportunity to go scuba diving in its 5.7-million-gallon saltwater tank.
Thousands of sea animals swim through the tank, and guests get to join them for a three-hour tour (40 minutes of which is spent diving). Tank residents include sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks.
Disney enthusiasts can learn a lot of behind the scenes information at Epcot on its various tours. Those interested in Disney history should take the UnDISCOVERed Future World tour, which elucidates Walt Disney’s technological fascinations. It explores how his desire to improve the world through technology led to the founding of Epcot.
There’s also the Yuletide Fantasy tour, which is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to adorn their home with a little Disney magic. This tour details how Disney World is dressed up for the holidays each year, complete with looks at some of the international holiday celebrations honored at the World Showcase pavilions.
Gardeners and/or environmental enthusiasts should consider taking Future World’s Living with the Land boat ride. It shows guests around Epcot’s outdoor and greenhouse laboratories, where experts are learning to cultivate farms while preserving the environment.
Epcot has even more to offer, including its yearly festivals. The Flower & Garden Festival, Food & Wine Festival, Sounds Like Summer Concert Series, and more, are ideal entertainment for a kids-free vacation.
When planning a grown-ups-only Disney trip, look no further than Epcot. It contains all of the attractions and dining one needs for a perfect getaway.
