Gaining Inspiration

Stickers, stamps and die cuts are not the only way to spice up a scrapbook layout. Often scrappers overlook famous sayings as viable embellishments to page designs. While many use recognizable quotes as a source of creative flair for titles or journaling blocks, few scrappers consider using inspirational words to frame photos or to use as page borders.

What’s more, many scrappers don’t realize that quotes from famous people can fit everything from baby scrapbook layouts to retirement page designs. There are even famous sayings about scrapbooking as a hobby. Some of the most popular include:

“Scrapbooking isn’t about scraps of paper and photos. Scrapbooking is about scraps of life – yours and those special to you.” –Rebecca Sower

“You know you’re an artist if: you go through a glue stick faster than a lipstick!” –Cosmo Cricket

“This is the purpose of the family scrapbook. It is a museum of reminders that life has been good.” –Lynne Bertrand

“Keep some souvenirs of your past, or how will you ever prove it wasn’t all a dream?” –Ashleigh Brilliant

“Treat your friends as you do your pictures–place them in their best light.” –Jennie Jerome Churchill

“A good snapshot stops a moment from running away.” –Eudora Welty

Of course, you don’t have to rely on strangers to provide words to live by. Many scrappers keep a pen and paper on hand to jot down funny or memorable sayings shared by friends and family members. Children are also the source of hilarious quotes that can easily be added to a scrapbook layout. Kids’ witty observations on life make for unique page titles and as bubble quotes over photos.

Another great resource for inspiration sayings is Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations: A Collection of Passages, Phrases, and Proverbs Traced to Their Sources in Ancient and Modern Literature. The book has been around since the 1850s and has been used by many professional writers and speakers.
