With the busy holiday season right around the corner, now is the time to upgrade your camera if need be. After all, you can’t create stunning layouts with photos that look better in the trash than on your scrapbook page.
Fortunately, decent quality digital cameras have come down in price in recent years. These days you can find user-friendly cameras that take professional-quality photos without breaking the bank. For less than $100 you can purchase a point-and-shoot model that doesn’t require you to mess with a maze of functions and settings. These types of cameras are typically small enough to fit into a pocket or purse, though they have limited features.
If you are looking to upgrade from a small point-and-shoot to a DSLR, you’ll be facing higher prices and a camera that is larger and heavier. A high-grade digital SLR camera will run you at least $500, but you get what you pay for. By graduating to this advanced camera, you will be able to manually control a slew of different features, plus you will have the benefit of interchangeable lenses, external flash, and other cool accessories. Another bonus, especially to scrapbookers, is that DSLR cameras capture RAW image files which are better suited for editing, and then showing off in your holiday–themed memory books.
When shopping for a digital SLR camera to take photos for your scrapbook, consider the sensor size. The size of the sensor determines the quality of photos taken in low light situations. In addition, look for cameras with face detection. This advance feature detects your subjects’ faces and makes sure they’re in optimum focus and color.
