Genealogy Podcast Roundup – Week of December 12, 2011

iPods Once again, it is time for the Genealogy Podcast Roundup. As always, this is a great place to find the newest episodes of your favorite genealogy podcasts. Since it is December, there will also be a few Christmas related podcast episodes for you to check out.

The Genealogy Guys released a new episode on December 4, 2011. This episode is number 228. They have announced that there have been over 1,000,000 downloads of the podcast since it started on September 5, 2005. I think that is impressive!

In their current episode, they discuss plenty of news, including a grassroots group called “Saving Ours”, the launch of the British Library Archive website, and some interesting upgrades from Ancestry.com. They also read and respond to lots of listener email.

FGS released an episode on December 10, 2011. This episode is called “SWAT: Analyzing Your Society from the Inside Out”.

This episode is hosted by Josh Taylor. It features guest Janet Hovorka, (President of the Utah Genealogical Association). She discusses how the UGA was able to analyze its strengths and weaknesses as an organization. This episode also highlights the Genealogical Society of South Whidbey Island, in Washington.

African Roots Podcast released episode number 140 on December 9, 2011. In this episode, host Angela Walton-Raji talks about an upcoming event in Pennsylvania where the Marcus Garvey Memorial Foundation will celebrate its Fiftieth anniversary at the Charles L. Blockson Afro American Collection. She also mentions an interesting article called “Riding the Contraband Train”, and points out that the NGS Conference Registration is now open.

GeneaBloggers released an episode on December 9, 2011. This episode is called “Genealogy Gift Guide”.

Guests include Janet Hovorka, who is from The Chart Chick blog and founder of Family ChartMasters. She talks about products available for displaying your genealogy research. Guest Lynn Palermo, of The Armchair Genealogist blog, talks about the hottest gifts for genealogists this year. Guest Caroline Pointer, of the Family Stories blog, shares ideas on how to create gifts for friends and family.

NPR has an episode of “Morning Edition” that was released on December 12, 2011. This episode is called “Nigella’s Tips for a Frugal Yet Festive Holiday”. The episode features an interview with Nigella Lawson, and discussion about her new book “Nigella Christmas”. There might be some ideas in there that are perfect for your family get-together this holiday season.

NPR released an episode of “Weekend Edition Saturday” on December 10, 2011. This episode is called “Horror For the Holidays: Meet the Anti-Santa”. The episode talks about The Krampus, a frightening Christmas character from European Alpine folklore.
