Once again, the Genealogy Podcast Roundup is back and is bringing you brand new episodes of your favorite genealogy podcasts. This is an easy way to discover which podcast created new episodes, and to find out about genealogy podcasts that you are not currently subscribed to.
GeneaBloggers released a new episode on February 18, 2012. This episode is called “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor: Nineteenth Century US Immigration”. This episode is hosted by “Ol’ Myrt” of DearMYRTLE.
Special guests include Marian Smith, Chief of the Historical Research Branch of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This episode also includes special guest Audrey Collins, who is a blogger and family historian at The National Archives (UK), and Angela Walton-Raji, who is a genealogist and the host of the African Roots Podcast.
African Roots released episode number 150 on February 17, 2012. Host Angela Walton-Raji points out several upcoming genealogy events and workshops. She also tells you about where to find African American genealogy groups on Facebook, and that Family Tree Magazine has been posting about where to find free online resources for African American Genealogy.
Irish Roots Cafe released a new episode on February 16, 2012. This episode is called “Irish Genealogy Myth #3 One way to spell your name”. In this episode, host Mike O’Laughlin discusses the myth that says that you cannot be related to someone if their surname is spelled differently from how you spell it. One example given is the surname O’Laughlin, which is also spelled O’Loglin, or O’Loughlin. Irish names often get spelled differently when translated into English.
FGS released a new episode on February 18, 2012. This episode is called “Strategic Planning for Genealogy Societies”. This episode is hosted by Drew Smith. Kenyatta D. Berry, President of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), is the special guest. They discuss how strategic planning efforts can benefit any genealogy society. The featured genealogical society for this episode is the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society.
Library and Archives Canada is a brand new genealogy podcast. Episodes will showcase treasures from their vaults, and will guide you through their many services.
On February 9, 2012, they released an episode called “Project naming and Canada’s North”. The episode discusses a community – engagement and photo-identification project that was launched by the Library and Archives of Canada in 2004. The project seeks to identify the people who are in old photographs from Canada’s North.
