Genealogy Podcast Roundup – Week of September 13, 2011

headphones The weekly Genealogy Podcast Roundup brings you new and interesting episodes of podcasts that focus on different aspects of genealogy. This quick list allows you to easily find the episodes that you are interested in listening to, and to find out when your favorite podcasts have updated.

Genealogy Gems released episode number 117 on September 6, 2011. This episode is called “Should Your Genealogy Research Flourish?” They discuss a “picnic”, and some news about Archives.com. Some listener email is answered, and Dear MYRTLE makes a guest appearance to talk about the “fl” abbreviation, and the Pensions Quilt.

African Roots Podcast released episode number 127 on September 9, 2011. In this episode, host Angela Walton-Raji talks about the AAHGS meeting, the upcoming African American Heritage Festival (in Towson, Maryland), the African American Heritage Day Festival (in Acokeek, Maryland), and a project called “Unknown No Longer: A Database of Virginia Slave Names”. These are just a few of the topics discussed in this episode!

GeneaBloggers released an episode called “Live Broadcast from the FGS 2011 Conference” on September 9, 2011. Host Thomas MacEntee did a live broadcast of this podcast from the Exhibit Hall at the Federation of Genealogical Societies’ 2011 Conference that took place in Springfield, Illinois. He interviews bloggers, speakers, vendors, and attendees.

FGS released an episode on September 10, 2011, that was also called “Live from FGS 2011 Conference” and that was also hosted by Thomas MacEntee. My best guess is that the content in this episode is identical to the content in the episode from GeneaBloggers that has the same title. This means that genealogists can take their pick of the two episodes, and skip the other one.

Create Your Life Story released episode 59 on September 13, 2011. This episode is called “Smash and Mash Your Life Story”. There are ideas in this episode about how to include photos, documents, journals, diaries, videos, audio recordings, bric-a-brac, and souvenirs into your life story. Or, you could use the techniques discussed in this podcast to put together a multimedia life story of one of your ancestors or relatives.

Irish Roots Cafe has an episode that was released on September 9, 2011. This episode is called “Talbot genealogy; County Kerry Ireland; O’Donahue of the Glen”. Topics discussed in this episode include: The Talbot Surname Report, a list of the family surames from County Kerry in Ireland, and a disturbing look into the “new science of DNA”, (and how it relates to the O’Donaghue surname.
