General Conference: “The Atonement Can Secure Your Peace and Happiness”

In “The Atonement Can Secure Your Peace and Happiness,” Elder Richard G Scott talks about the importance of centering your life on Christ, so that you can find true happiness. Elder Scott opens with the analogy of two different types of rock climbers. He speaks of the solo climbers who live on the edge and those that climb with partners using anchors and rope to ensure their safety while they climb. Elder Scott goes on to compare the solo climbers as those who go through life without guidance. Those that climb with partners are compared to people who rely on the Lord to guide them through life. The anchors are compared to eternal laws, the rope to commandments and belaying to repentance. Elder Scott then says:

“True, enduring happiness, with the accompanying strength, courage, and capacity to overcome the greatest difficulties, will come as you center your life in Jesus Christ. Obedience to His teachings provides a secure ascent in the journey of life. That takes effort. While there is no guarantee of overnight results, there is the assurance that, in the Lord’s time, solutions will come, peace will prevail, and happiness will be yours.”

Elder Scott speaks of the trials that we face in life. He speaks of the importance of allowing the Lord to lead us through these trials. As we do this, our focus will become positive and we will be able to overcome the difficulties before us. He mentions that trials may be long lasting and difficult to bear but the Lord will be with us.

Elder Scott goes on to talk about the importance of using the Atonement when your life is centered on Christ. He shares that we will never be fully able to comprehend everything that the Atonement encompasses, but that as we study the Atonement it will help bring our lives in harmony with the teachings of the Savior.

This is a wonderful talk. I love the analogy that Elder Scott makes at the beginning of the talk. The talk also offers words of comfort to all of us. It is important to study and understand the true meaning of the Atonement and how far reaching it truly is. I hope that you will take the time to read this wonderful talk.
