General Conference – The words of Prophets & Apostles

You know this about me now. I love the gospel. I love to immerse myself in the written words teaching every principle, precept and practice of the gospel. I devour the scriptures and books that are available, counting myself blessed that I live in this day and age where so much information is readily available. Twice a year we are blessed to either attend, watch or listen to a modern day prophet and his apostles teach us from the pulpit—what an incredible privilege that is. Imagine life as it was for a follower of Christ thousands of years ago – shoot, imagine it two hundred years ago. We do not have to travel miles upon miles on foot, donkey, horseback or by wagon – but merely walk downstairs to our living room and flip on the television or radio. And yet, I’m not sure all Latter-day saints understand the magnitude of what we experience.

Spoken over the pulpit of General Conference is scripture. Our prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, stands at that pulpit and teaches us through the gift and power of inspiration from above. He is a man who walks and talks with the Lord. He is the mouthpiece of the Lord and has the utmost love, care and concern for each of us. His words do not have to be etched in gold plates, inscribed on leather or written on ancient paper. He speaks and his words go over the airwaves to every corner of the world. His words are recorded and published in books, magazines and newspapers and translated into many, many languages.

So I ask each of you this day, whatever sessions are available in your corner of the world, sit down, listen, take notes and let the Spirit flow over you, teach you and broaden your understanding of the gospel as you listen and take into your hearts the words of His prophet and apostles.
