Get Your Egg On

With Easter just a few weeks away, now is the time to start thinking about eggs, bunnies and Peeps. Many stores that have been stocking Easter merchandise since the day after Valentine’s Day are offering discounts to early birds. This is great if you are looking to snag money-saving deals on Easter goodies for your spring fling.

If you don’t have the funds to go hog wild on Easter Bunny decor, then simply get creative with items you may have around the house. For example:

Ice Bunny: Use a bunny-shaped cake pan to create a unique ice sculpture centerpiece to display at your Easter brunch buffet. Once you unmold your chilly rabbit, place him on a bed of plastic grass peppered with some fresh flowers. You could also place the holiday-themed sculpture in a large basket (which will hold a pool of melting ice) and place decorated eggs around the base along with some jelly beans or other hard candy.

Easter Egg Tree: The tree of decorated eggs is a holiday tradition in many homes. To make your own, simply collect a small twig or tree branch from your backyard, secure it in a pot with floral foam or rocks and spray it white. Next, paint wooden or plastic eggs, and then use colorful ribbon to attach the eggs to the branch.

Grass Nest: You don’t have to use plastic grass for this charming Easter decoration. Rather, fill small bowls with wheat grass, and then add a few tulips or daises around the perimeter of the nest. Finally, fill the nests with decorated eggs and place the finished product on your Easter dinner table.

To really make your Easter projects pop, consider putting a twist on decorated eggs. Instead of using traditional dye to spice up your eggs, consider decoupaging them. Another option is to cover the eggs with plastic gems, buttons or beads. If you are working with young kids, then use stickers or have your preschooler decorate his egg with markers or glitter glue.
