No, this isn’t a reminder to print out the hundreds of pictures taking up space on your digital camera’s memory card. (If your mom is like mine she’s got that job covered.) Rather, this blog is a follow up to my previous article on ways you can get your favorite family photos to friends in the fastest way possible. One item that didn’t make my last blog was the technologically advanced digital cameras that allow you to transfer your pictures directly to websites… without the obligatory wire attachments.
Digital wireless technology meets photography. It’s a marriage made in Heaven for owners of digital cameras who don’t like to deal with the hassle that comes with hooking up and downloading. The new technology may appear gimmicky, but in the end it gets the job done. You get the images off your camera—pronto.
The new cameras let you send photos to your email account, photo-sharing sites, or even to another camera. Personally, I think the feature is invaluable for people who travel a lot and worry about filling up their memory cards. With wireless technology you can upload your shots immediately and cut out the cords and bulk of toting around a laptop to do so.
Another option is investing in a digital camera that features Bluetooth, a short-range communications technology. With those types of cameras you can send your pictures to other Bluetooth enabled devices. In the end you get a high quality camera and the ability to send your shots wirelessly to friends and family members.
Now that you know the pros of these new cameras, let’s review the cons. First of all, you need to find a Wi-Fi spot to send your pictures from. Second, the cameras are larger and heavier than typical digital cameras. Third, the technology is fairly new, so you can expect some road bumps along the way. With that said, I found the quality of the pictures taken by the new cameras were excellent.
One final note: If you are not looking to invest in a new camera, but still want take photos on the fly, photography experts say camera phones are making major strides. Some companies are now making phones with 5 megapixel cameras built in. That’s a huge improvement from the traditional camera phones.
