Getting Into the Christmas Spirit

Now that Thanksgiving is over and Advent has officially begun, my family is really getting into the Christmas spirit. It also helps that we put up our tree yesterday.

Fa-la-la-la-la and ho, ho, ho! It’s off to create memorable holiday scrapbooks I go.

Every year I swear that I am going to be more organized when it comes to collecting material for my Christmas scrapbook. I’m tired of creating the same, boring timeline of events: buying the tree, decorating it, baking cookies, listing presents everyone received, blah, blah, blah. It seems all of my layouts blur into one. They all feature a few photos, some embellishments and a memento or two.

This year I want to be more creative by enhancing the look of my layouts via personalized stories and other prized pieces. For example, I am determined to scan my daughter’s letter to Santa and place a copy of it in my scrapbook. In addition, I am toying with the idea of downloading an audio recording device made especially for scrapbooks, so I can document my 7-year-old mangling the words to Silent Night and Jingle Bells. Someone suggested I record my daughter’s version of the song, and then display a copy of the correct lyrics in the layout. PictureThatSound offers a line of scrapbook cards equipped with a built-in recording device which make for incredible additions to page designs.

Another idea I want to execute this year is to design a multi-page spread documenting all of the Christmas crafts we make. I saw a sample of this at a scrapbook convention I attended nearly a year ago and have been waiting patiently to finally put my own touches on the idea. In addition to photos of my family putting together the crafts, I am planning to incorporate some of the materials we use for the projects and a few of the finished items, provided they are small enough to fit on the layout.
