Getting Organized

Here’s great incentive to get your scrapbooking space organized: the Scrapbook Rewards Visa Card. The card offers avid scrappers a way to add to their collection of goods by earning points on purchases. The points can then be redeemed for cardstock, albums, totes, paper trimmers, replacement blades, embellishments and other scrapbooking supplies.

However, there’s a catch, at least in my home. I have a rule that for every new item I purchase I must add it to an inventory sheet, so that I am not accumulating items that I really don’t need. Whereas I would love 20 different packs of Halloween-themed stickers, I don’t need them to create cute layouts.

Organizing your scrapbook supplies is an easy way to keep your spending under control. In addition, you can take the idea a step further by pre-planning your scrapbook layouts. This idea may not sit well with spontaneous scrappers, but there are many benefits to pre-planning page designs, including:

Using only what you have: By pre-planning a layout you are less likely to run out to a scrapbook supply shop and spontaneously spend on items you don’t necessarily need.

Journal help: When you plan out a page you are less likely to forget details you want to add when journaling. In addition, if you get into the habit of immediately sorting and labeling photos, you will have an easier time figuring out how to use all of your favorites in a single layout or making the decision to expand the design so it encompasses multiple pages.

Special events: Pre-planning pays off big time for special event scrapping. For example, if you pre-design a layout for your upcoming trip to Disney World, then you won’t forget to take the photos you need to add to the page design. The same is true for pre-planned holiday layouts. Knowing how you plan to create a specific layout will help you take the proper photos, purchase only the embellishments you need, and formalize journal entries well in advance.
