Getting the Last Laugh

Well, now we really know why the bigwigs at CBS told Neil Patrick Harris to can it.

According to network sources, Britney Spears is headed back to “How I Met Your Mother.” The sitcom saw record ratings when the post-rehab pop tart guest starred on the show in March and now it appears producers want more Britney.

Sources close to the show are calling the move a “mutual decision” and both parties are reportedly thrilled to be working together again.

Insiders say the singer turned actress has signed on to do a single episode and will reprise her role as a receptionist at a dermatologist’s office who fell for one of the show’s main characters, played by Josh Radnor.

No word on whether Brit will have any scenes with series regular Harris, but if she does I’m sure we won’t hear nearly as much about how he felt about her performance as we did last time.

Finally, do you remember little Rudy Huxtable from “The Cosby Show?” Well, she’s all grown up and about to take on a role that would make her TV dad wince.

Keisha Knight Pulliam has signed on to play an imprisoned prostitute in “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail.” According to Variety, the 29-year-old is set to star opposite Perry, Derek Luke, Tamela Mann and David Mann.

The comedy reportedly focuses on Perry’s character, whose penchant for trouble-making lands her in prison. While behind bars she comes to the rescue of Pulliam’s hooker character who is being preyed upon by a large woman named Big Sal. Meanwhile, Luke is set to play Joshua, an attorney who has a past with Pulliam’s character.

Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-May in Atlanta, with a tentative early 2009 release planned.

Fans of Pulliam will likely recall her appearance in Perry’s TBS series “House of Payne.” In addition to her new role on the big screen, the actress recently announced that she is launching an Atlanta-based production company for film and television projects that she has in development.
