“Go Beach or Go Home!”

I love that title. In fact, I lifted it from my friend’s summer travel scrapbook.

Obviously, I have no shame.

Actually, as I told my pal, I think the title is so clever it deserves to be shared with the world.

Travel scrapbooks are my favorite to design, and with spring break in full swing and summer just around the corner, I thought it apropos to share some of my favorite tips for spicing up layouts that spotlight trips to the beach.

One of my favorite pages features photos from our recent trip to Hawaii. I used pictures I took of my daughter, my brothers and all of the cousins jumping into the water at the same time. The photos are displayed on a background that simulates the beach. To make the mock beach I used a piece of tan cardstock and flecked it with bits of white and yellow. Then, I added sand paste and a few strips of sandpaper. To make the water I used blue vellum and cut out some wave designs, though you could use a scalloped edge paper punch if you wanted to stick with plain cardstock. Finally, I adhered the photos on the page to document the first big splash they made during our beach outing.

Another one of my favorite layouts includes seashells my daughter collected in Hawaii. Whereas I love incorporating mementos into page designs, with objects like seashells, you need to be a bit more selective. Large shells are not conducive to scrapbooking. Neither are shells with really jagged edges. I used the smallest and smoothest shells I could find and featured them on a sand-textured background. If you can’t get your hands on Mudd Puddles’ sand paste, then just cover a tan piece of cardstock with photo safe glue and sprinkle transparent glitter on it. Then, place the shells randomly on the page, and add your favorite photos of your kids playing in the sand or your teen sunbathing on her favorite beach towel.
