Scrapbooking is not a cheap hobby. I suppose it’s less expensive than gambling, but let’s face it; if you are an avid scrapper you can bleed through a ton of cash trying to preserve your favorite memories during the course of a year.
Dealing with hefty scrapbooking bills is one of the reasons my best friend decided to go digital. Digital scrapbooking is the wave of the future, and believe it or not, it can be quite economical if you play your cards right.
The biggest benefit when it comes to digital scrapbooking can be summed up in one word: re-usable. All digital scrapbooking supplies can be used multiple times. For example, if you love, love, a particular flower embellishment, you can use it on 20 pages if you desire. What’s more, with digital scrapbooking’s ability to re-color files, the same flower can look different on all 20 layouts.
Some people are reluctant to go digital because they fear that they will have to drop a ton of money purchasing new computer equipment in order to get started. Fortunately, investing in a new computer is not necessary. All you really need is more memory and a good photo-editing program, such as PhotoShop Elements or PaintShopPro. However, even with photo-editing software there are ways to save. For example, there are many websites that allow you to download free copies of photo-editing software for free. In addition, you can also download digital scrapbook freebies, which are essentially samples of products that you can test out before you buy.
You can save even more with digital scrapping if you are an 8×8 scrapper. By forgoing the need to print 12×12 pages, you can print your layouts at home using a standard printer without having to upload your work to different sites that will print them for you.
If you are still not convinced that digital is the way to go, then go hybrid. Some scrappers create a digital layout, then print it out and further embellish it with paper decorations. It is cheap and easy to use a digital template and tools and then print and embellish with traditional stickers, stamps and die-cuts.
