God’s Healing Power

When we think of another being healed, a malady or sickness that has passed naturally or with a doctor’s help may come to mind. When some hear of God healing another, they may assume the ailment was less likely to cure on its own; therefore believing the healing is God-given.

I believe all healing is given by God. He has designed our bodies in such an amazing way! He has created anti-bodies to attack viruses and has given us skin to protect our organs. He created the ability for our blood to clot (we call scabs “God’s Band-Aids” in our home) and nerves to discern danger… I am in awe when I think about how divinely we are created by Him.

So why is it in the Bible we hear so much more about people receiving miraculous healings? One thing I see emphasized over and over again in the Word is people’s faith. I believe God wants us to know that He is able. So when I desperately wanted to be a mom, I knew God was completely able to help us conceive. I had complete faith in Him. We never became pregnant though. Instead God did something even bigger and more amazing! He blessed us with two boys who needed a mom and dad. He used our sons to touch our lives in amazing ways.

I don’t believe every healing is an outward one. I think God chooses many creative ways to heal us. Sometimes it is a healing of our hearts, or a renewed hope and appreciation for life; a chance to bring healing to others by inspiration. I believe God allows us to remain sick sometimes to keep us humble, that we might be sensitive to the needs of others.

There is another healing that I believe happens. If you have ever watched a loved one suffering, then saw the Lord choose to take them home to heaven, you may understand what I’m talking about. The grief may be so great to lose this loved one, but knowing they are no longer hurting and in their Creator’s loving arms can be a very comforting thought.

It’s easy to take for granted the protection and healing we receive daily from the Lord.
