Good Health Doesn’t Have to be Expensive

In implementing an exercise regime recently, I saved quite a bit of money by doing a couple of things in different ways. Here are some top tips for saving money on exercise items.

Look out for offers in your local budget supermarket on generic style trainers – most are suitable for walking, and low impact exercise. Its not a good idea to cut corners on high impact exercise items, so, if in doubt ask their shoe department salesmen if they can point you in the right direction.

Look out for offers on Ebay/your local thrift or charity store for second hand exercise videos or DVD’s. It may be cost prohibitive to pick up a new copy of the latest techniques, but several in the last five years are highly effective. Do a little research online on the different exercise types – sometimes you might find a plan with details online that will let you read and learn the instructions from the site.

Can¹t afford to go to a gym?
Walk and swim! – walking and swimming are great ways to generally tone up, though you should be aware that swimming makes your upper torso more “blocky” if undertaken in large amounts. But swimming is also great for avoiding the general aches and pains you may get straining your joints.

Bottled water is an expense that I ditched a week into my new regime – if your tap water is safe, then use that – you can add a dash of juice concentrate, or fruit juice if you can¹t stand the taste of plain water, but if your tap water is drinkable, bottled water is a cost that you can do without. Iced tea is also a great thirst quencher.

Care should always be taken when exercising or changing your regime as it’s possible that you¹ll hurt yourself. Consulting with your doctor is always a good idea when considering how to shape up, tone up, or begin a drastic change.
